I co-create with the Geothermal Landscape, transforming matter within the womb space of active volcanic fumaroles.
I am interested in the relational power that becomes possible when we view the entire universe as ensouled, enspirited, and capable of communion.
What wisdom becomes available when we enter into relationship with earth and sky?
What might we make together when we truly listen and see?
And how can I, as an artist, give Nature its own voice and hand within the work, through visual language, matter and felt experience?

Feathers gathered by hand from the whenua of Rotorua are electroformed in copper, worked with muka and harakeke, and exposed to geothermal processes that continue shaping the work.
The feather sits at the intersection of ideas Karen Hansen has been circling as an artist for a decade: bird-goddess imagery, the sacred feminine, sculptural adornment, conductivity, spirit, and the invisible made visible.
